Humanitarian Photography for NGOs

Social documentary and visual storytelling for humanitarian organizations

With a career spanning more than three decades, I specialize in documentary photography for NGOs, capturing powerful visual narratives that highlight critical social issues. Since moving to India in 2002, I have worked extensively with international nonprofits, humanitarian organizations, and global publications, using photography as a tool for advocacy, awareness, and impact.

My assignments have taken me across the country, from the bustling streets of Kolkata to the remote villages of Odisha, Bihar, and Rajasthan. I have documented a wide range of humanitarian efforts, including public health initiatives, education programs, gender equality projects, and disaster relief efforts. Through documentary photography for NGOs, I strive to create compelling images that drive social change, helping organizations communicate their mission effectively and connect with wider audiences.

One of my most significant long-term projects was photographing India’s polio eradication campaign for WHO and UNICEF since 2004. This body of work was published in the book Triumph Over Polio in 2012, celebrating India’s historic milestone of becoming polio-free. In addition to public health, my work has covered HIV/AIDS awareness, malaria prevention, disability rights, resettlement and rehabilitation, and education programs, working closely with organizations such as Save the Children, Médecins Sans Frontières, and Oxfam.

My approach is rooted in ethical storytelling—ensuring that the subjects are portrayed with dignity and authenticity. I believe that visual storytelling plays a crucial role in advocacy, fundraising, and policy influence, providing NGOs with the tools to showcase their impact and reach a global audience.

For organizations seeking a photographer who understands the nuances of NGO work, I offer a collaborative approach that goes beyond just taking pictures—I create stories that inspire action. If you’re looking for documentary photographer in India, let’s connect and discuss how impactful visuals can support your mission.

Documentary Photography for NGOs Stories of Resilience and Change

Documentary Photography For NGOs

NGO and humanitarian photography is a powerful form of visual storytelling dedicated to raising awareness and inspiring action for social causes. As a humanitarian photographer I document the work of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and humanitarian efforts in India and worldwide. I attempt to capture the struggles, resilience, and hope of marginalised communities, refugees, and individuals facing adversity. These evocative images convey the urgency of humanitarian issues, aiming to mobilise support, funding, and advocacy. As an NGO and humanitarian photographer I serve as a visual advocate, shining a light on pressing global challenges, from poverty and conflict to healthcare and environmental crises, fostering empathy and driving positive change.
