UNVEILED

I was born in Israel into a secular Jewish family, deeply conscious of the Holocaust and the questions it raises about faith, God and humanity. Religious discussion was rare in my home, and my own spiritual journey developed independently. I believe in God, but I have never felt a need to belong to an organized religion.

My photography uses the naked body in conversation with religious symbols, rituals and images drawn from the history of art. I am interested in what happens when familiar sacred imagery is placed on bodies that do not conform to the identities traditionally associated with those images. A prayer shawl becomes part of a nude body; a veil conceals and reveals at the same time; a gesture of religious submission becomes ambiguous; the idealized female nude of Western art is reimagined through a body that challenges conventional ideas of gender.

The work draws primarily from Judaism, Christianity and Islam—the religious traditions that shaped the culture in which I grew up. Living in Israel, I encountered their symbols and physical presence every day: synagogues, churches, mosques, cemeteries, rituals and objects that carry centuries of meaning.

I am not interested in mocking faith or making provocation for its own sake. I am interested in the tension created when these inherited symbols encounter the physical, sexual and imperfect human body.

Unveiled refers both to the exposure of the body and to the uncovering of meanings beneath familiar images. By taking sacred and culturally loaded symbols out of their expected context, I try to create a space where faith, sexuality, gender, beauty and vulnerability can exist together without easy answers.
